Social Media and Business

Plain English on December 18th, 2009 4 Comments

There is a lot to talk about with Social Media and using it for business. With all the up-sprung ‘guru’s’ and industry experts crowding the market place, it can be difficult to work out how you can really use this technology. To be honest, Social Media is extremely simple for business – you don’t need a guru to tell you that!

Here’s a neat little infographic which explains what application to use, and when. I would add Twitter to the PR list, its great for engaging with customers:

Web Design Bishops Stortford

News on November 19th, 2009 2 Comments

TBO Media hail from the historic town of Bishops Stortford. Bishops Stortford has a long and interesting history, dating back to the ice age nearly 250,000 years ago! If you’d like to read more about our town’s history, head over to stortfordhistory.co.uk

Things have moved on a lot since then of course, and today the thriving market town is host to a huge range of business sectors (including many web design agencies!) to meet demands. You could walk down the high street today and be able to find (pretty much!) everything you would ever need. The town is well connected transport wise, with the M11 gateway, stansted airport, and regular trains into London. This is what makes Bishops Stortford such an attractive option for many businesses, including ours.

For us web design companies, being based in Bishops Stortford means we are strategically well placed to serve our clients all over Hertfordshire, and for TBO Media, Europe. Being outside of the London catchment area means we are able to take advantage of lower overheads and costs to our business. This enables us to offer a lot more affordable rates on our web design services compared to many central London based companies. You would be typically paying much higher rates per hour for the same level of service, and the same end products.

To arrange a free quotation (or maybe even a free website) then give us a call on 01279 310692 and we’d be happy to help. We offer 100% non geeky explanations of our services, and promise not to confuse you…we’ll try anyway. Alternatively, click here to email us of fill out the form below for a call/email back:

Client Interview: Lynn Bound, Tass Gas

News on November 16th, 2009 No Comments

Lynn Bound supplies gas bottle refills to the Hertfordshire area, the business has a strong focus on customer service and ‘going the extra mile’ to get ahead of the competition. Lynn recently had a new website designed and built to increase online exposure, and reflect her brand values. You can view the website by clicking here.

Lynn is with us today to answer a few questions about her company and how she is using online marketing to promote her business.

Hi Lynn, thanks for taking the time to speak with us today! Firstly, what was your motivation to move into the Gas bottle hire industry?

Hi guys, I have an experienced ADR operative working with me who has 15 years experience in the industry.  We researched the local area and found that the service for delivery was sadly lacking.  A lot of dealers leave a voice mail service for orders to be placed, and customers are left to guess when the delivery will arrive.  At TASS GAS we offer a more personal service in that every call will be answered by a member of staff and the customer will know exactly when their delivery will be made.

2. Do you feel an online presence in your industry is an important area to cover?

I think an online presence is essential for all businesses, especially for the type of product we are selling.  People will be able to see our range of products easily and obtain prices.

3. Part of your strategy has been a new website, was getting online a daunting/confusing task?

I would normally find this daunting and confusing, however I had none of the stress or worry as this was completely taken off my shoulders by TBO Media.

4. What’s the next step for you and the business?

Our next step is to expand the areas we cover, we are methodically targeting areas in Hertfordshire and Essex, once these are covered we will move into other districts.

5. How did you find the experience of dealing with TBO Media?

I have to say that I was so impressed with the way TBO Media handled my order.  I was given clear and concise information,  they researched key words to ensure my website got the best possible chance of reaching the top entries on google and I was offered very competitive packages to choose from.  In short it was a excellent experience and I would not hesitate to recommend TBO to anyone.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us today Lynn, and all the best with the new venture! Remember readers, if you need gas bottle refills, with competitive prices and a focus on superb customer service, visit Lynn’s new website by clicking here.

Microsoft’s Bing, finally lets us in..

Challenges on November 10th, 2009 1 Comment

Hi guys,

Just checked Bing.com this morning, and we are now listed in their index for our targeted keywords Page 2, position 15.

The work we have done for Google and Yahoo has been noticed by Bing, as the results above show. Bing uses a completely different algorithm, as you will notice you get different results when you search. Compared to Google, these results aren’t always as relevant, but Bing offers a few variations on getting different results (local, tabs, images etc).

So did we do anything radically different for Bing, this relatively new search engine? Well, no.

Despite some minor technical changes, the search engine optimisation for Bing is a standard process like the others. We can see Bing does like;

  • Different Meta descriptions
  • Relevant page titles
  • Heading tags
  • Lots of quality content

Taken from the Bing white paper released for webmasters; Bing goes onto explain:

Ultimately, SEO is still SEO. Bing doesn’t change that. Bing’s new user interface design simply adds new opportunities to searchers to find what the information they want more quickly and easily, and that benefits webmasters who have taken the time to work on the quality of their content and website design.

Best of all, the type of SEO work and tasks webmasters need to perform to be successful in Bing haven’t changed—all of the skills and knowledge that webmasters have invested in previously applies fully today with Bing. Moreover, investments in solid, reputable SEO work made for Bing will bring similar improvements in your website’s page rank in Google and Yahoo! as well.

That’s the word from Bing, and is good enough for us!

Update 3: The Web Design Hertfordshire Challenge.. Up We Go! (Well, kinda)

Challenges on November 2nd, 2009 1 Comment

Evening all,

Just a quick update on our latest progress on our Google Challenge on the keyword phrase web design hertfordshire.

It has been a busy few weeks for TBO Media, but we have not forgotten about our ‘little’ challenge we set back in October. So with November upon us, how are we doing in Google?

Well, from the first week position of 227 on page 23, we have climbed to position 180 and sneaked onto page 18! So if my maths is correct, that’s 47 places and 5 pages, in less than a month. Remember, these figures are with a highly competitive search term, on a new website. Having a site already ranking ‘OK’ in Google will see results much faster, as the website is already known in Google’s eyes.

So imagine if a website was already on page 5, and we carried out the same work on another search term? Well, depending on the term and competition, it could be a lot closer to the first page of Google. Simple.

Lets just recap – we have moved up the Google rankings by 47 places in 3 weeks, that’s 47 potential companies, all going for the same keyword phrase, we are now ranking above. Of course, page 18 is still waaaaay off an end result for us being ‘competitive’ for this keyword phrase, but these early signs of movement in the rankings are an important, and encouraging start.

An important lesson to take from this is search engine optimisation is always going to be a long term project. Anyone claiming they can get you top of Google in a day should be questioned further – there is no ‘silver bullet’ fix for ranking high, and it is not an over night fix. Sorry to break it to you!

We don’t know about you guys…but we are looking forward to seeing the next Google update in 3weeks!

If you have been looking for web design in Hertfordshire, grab this deal!

Get A Free Website, Domain and Hosting!

TBO Updates on October 23rd, 2009 1 Comment

First things first, you will get a free website, no strings attached. It isn’t just any old cheap website either;

  • It will look great with your logo and text in.
  • You can pick from a choice of colours
  • You can update it yourself
  • It uses industry standard technology
  • It is legally yours, no strings attached.
  • You get a domain of your choice (www.yourcompany.co.uk, worth £10/yr)
  • We even host it for you. (worth £60/yr)

For many, the idea of having a website is paying a lump sum to a web design agency, and then sitting back and watching the customers roll in. Build it and they will come, right? Well… no, not really. Sorry to break it to you, a website is worthless without the right search engine optimisation work. We’ve heard it many times before;

‘I had a website built, but no one can find it, and I get nothing from it…’

You see, having a website is one thing, but having it seen in the eyes of the search engines is quite another. Once a website is built, it needs continued analysis and attention to perform in the search engines. Just because you have a website, does not mean you will rank well, if at all, in the search engines. It’s that simple.

Would you pay for search engine optimisation after your £600 website has been built, and wait 6months before seeing any change in Google? Of course not!

The idea of this free website offer is to remove the risk and worry of setup and build costs, allowing you to invest in what really matters with a new website – regular search engine maintenance to get you top of Google.

Every month, for a flat fee of just £39, we will be checking over your website and offering suggestions to action for the coming months ahead. We look at a range of variables including; history, rankings, errors, referrals, links, new content suggestions, you name it. With this data, we can continually improve the performance of your website.

There are no hidden costs and no nasty exit clauses if you decide it isn’t for you.

For small companies and start ups it is the perfect solution – just £39 upfront and you can cancel at any time.

So what about.. Hosting? Domain registration? (the www.yourcompany.co.uk)…It’s ALL included.

Sound too good to be true? How can we offer such a great deal, and make money?

Well to be honest, we will be losing money on this project until we get the numbers up. Only then, we will start to break even – like everything, its a numbers game.

Our goal is to dispel some of the myths and ‘smoke and mirrors’ involved with the web and search engine optimisation industry, and bring prices down to fair and sensible levels.

Update 2: The Web Design Hertfordshire Google Challenge…Yahoo says.. “Hello TBO”

Challenges on October 16th, 2009 1 Comment

Hi guys,

Just a quick update before the weekend.

As you can see by the title, I noticed Yahoo has started to take note of our little challenge we have going on with Google. I couldn’t help take a quick peak at what the other search engines thought of our ‘web design hertfordshire‘ optimisation, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Maybe Yahoo got jealous.. but as you can see, they have rocketed us up their rankings…to PAGE TWO!

That is a great result, and long term (search engine optimastion always is) this is very encouraging.

It also goes to show the basic fundamentals of search engine optimisation do not need to be changed a huge amount to target different search engines. Sure there are some minor changes, different pages might get listed for example, but the foundation is the same. I hope the evidence above helps dispel that myth.

Have a great weekend everyone!
